Neil el-Aynaoui, the former Lens player who joined AS Roma last summer, was robbed at his Rome home in the early hours of Tuesday, with family members held during the break-in.

The incident happened at about three in the morning at his house in south-west Rome, near the club’s training base where several players live, according to ANSA.

Six hooded men, dressed in black and armed, forced entry by ripping a grille from the living-room window before entering the property.

El-Aynaoui was the first to wake and was shut in a room with his partner, his mother, his brother and his brother’s partner. The burglars took jewellery worth about 10,000 euros, a Rolex and luxury bags.

The Morocco international, capped 13 times, informed the club and will miss Tuesday’s training. Roma face Bologna in the Europa League last-16 second leg on Thursday at 21:00 after a 1-1 first leg.
