Leicester City head into this weekend’s Carabao Cup tie with Northampton carrying fitness concerns, with Ben Nelson the main worry. The defender suffered a right knee problem in the final pre-season friendly against Genoa.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the defender went down late in the first half after a tangle of legs, received treatment and appeared in pain. He was helped down the tunnel by two members of staff.

Martin is hopeful the issue is not long term and plans to assess it in the next couple of days. He called it a shame given Nelson’s excellent pre-season and they are keeping fingers crossed.

Will Alves’ absence from both weekend friendlies raised concern, but his issue is not serious and he will be in the squad to face Northampton.

Summer signing Chaplin missed last week’s double-header and the open training session with a knock. The problem is not thought to be serious, and Martin is cautious, hopeful both Chaplin and goalkeeper McCarthy will be involved next week, if not then against Notts County. After a week out, McCarthy will hope to be involved this weekend.
