Chelsea picked up where they left off after the international break with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, moving them up to second in the Premier League table.
The early exchanges were scrappy, with both sides struggling to find rhythm. Burnley looked lively on the wings, particularly through Jaidon Anthony and Loum Tchaouna, but Chelsea’s defence held firm.
Chelsea’s best chances early on came from quick breaks, though Liam Delap’s finish went well over the bar.
The visitors eventually took the lead in the 37th minute. Marc Cucurella drove forward from deep, managed to hold off two Burnley defenders, and played a neat ball to Jamie Gittens. Gittens’ teasing cross found Pedro Neto at the far post, and the Portuguese winger produced a diving header to put the Blues ahead.
Enzo Maresca's side continued to press after the break. Neto nearly added a second when his shot rattled the post, and Malo Gusto tested Martin Dubravka with a close-range effort.
As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Chelsea finally put the game beyond doubt. Neto picked up the ball in midfield and combined with substitute Marc Guiu, whose clever pass allowed Enzo Fernandez to slot home calmly despite a couple of defenders in his path.
The victory lifts Chelsea to second in the table ahead of a busy week, with Champions League action against Barcelona on Tuesday and a league clash with leaders Arsenal to follow at Stamford Bridge.
