Bayern discusses contract structure

As reported in the BILD podcast Bayern Insider, those responsible at the record champions have recently been working intensively on the possible contract structure in the event that Neuer wants to play for another year

At a supervisory board meeting on 23 February, the financial aspect in particular is said to have played a central role, with the discussion focusing on whether the goalkeeper should be offered a new contract on similar terms

Neuer is currently still one of the top earners at FC Bayern, with his annual salary estimated at around 20 million euros

Particularly in view of his age and the recent increase in injuries, there are apparently voices within the club in favor of adjusting his salary

One possible solution could be a more performance-related contract, whereby part of the salary would be linked to appearances or sporting success. For Bayern, this would be a way to reduce the financial risk and at the same time continue to offer the long-serving captain a perspective

However, the issue of salary is a sensitive one. A possible reduction in salary is said to have been a sensitive point in previous contract talks. Whether Neuer would be prepared to accept a pay cut therefore remains to be seen. In the end, the decision on his future lies with the goalkeeper himself anyway

Should Neuer decide to stay for another year, there are likely to be further intensive talks between the player and the club in the coming months.
