Benjamin Sesko has come off the bench to score in two successive matches for Manchester United.

Tonight’s tremendous effort from the Slovenian international was a match-winner for United, which ensured they secured a crucial three points in their maiden trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Sesko nets seventh Premier League goal in hard-fought Everton win

A swift counter-attacking move from the Reds culminated with Sesko finding the back of the net after being played in by Bryan Mbeumo, who also assisted the striker for his last-gasp equaliser away to West Ham United two weeks ago.

It marks the 22-year-old’s sixth goal in his last seven appearances across all competitions. Three of those goals have come under Michael Carrick alone, despite Carrick refraining from starting Sesko in any of the matches he’s overseen.

That could all be about to change now, though.

Gary Neville believes Sesko’s passionate celebration on Merseyside was his way of sending an indirect message to his boss.

He said on Sky Sports’ live coverage: “That aggressive celebration is the celebration of a man who’s saying to his manager, ‘You must start me!’”

How could Carrick slot Sesko into his starting XI?

Presumably, Amad Diallo would be sacrificed to make way for Sesko to start if Carrick did opt to make a change for the home clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday, as that was the substitution he made tonight.

The winger had struggled to make an impact in the hour of action he played, so was first to exit the field when United were desperately searching for a breakthrough.

This evening’s result not only means that the side remain unbeaten under Carrick, but they are also now three points ahead of both Chelsea (fifth) and Liverpool (sixth), as well as just three points behind third-placed Aston Villa, whom United face at Old Trafford on March 15.
