FC Bayern will have to change their plans at short notice for the Bundesliga clash against Union Berlin. Aleksandar Pavlovic is unexpectedly unavailable for Vincent Kompany, meaning the Munich side will be missing an important pillar in the center.
Shortly before kick-off, it was announced that Pavlovic would be unavailable due to a hip problem, meaning the midfielder will not be in the squad for the match against Union Berlin and forcing Bayern to make a spontaneous adjustment in central midfield.
Pavlovic has firmly established himself in the team in recent months after a number of injury problems last season and is now one of the most consistent players in the squad. His presence in the build-up play and against the ball is an important building block in Kompany’s system.

In response to his absence, Leon Goretzka moves into the starting eleven alongside Joshua Kimmich. Another alternative for the central midfield role is youngster Tom Bischof, who will initially sit on the bench against Union. The overall personnel situation also remains tense, with several absentees and suspensions further limiting the options, putting even more pressure on the remaining members of the squad.
Regardless of this, Bayern want to continue their positive run. After their convincing performance in the Champions League against Atalanta Bergamo, the aim in the Bundesliga is to confirm their form and pick up another win.
The situation comes at a bad time for Pavlovic himself, who could also be in danger of missing Germany’s international matches against Switzerland on 27 March and Ghana on 30 March. It is still unclear whether his hip problem is a more serious injury or merely a precautionary measure.
