Just under a week ago, it was reported that both Munich and Manchester United were planning a move for the 24-year-old. Liverpool FC were also mentioned as interested in this context. Thiaw is still under contract with Newcastle United until 2029, which significantly strengthens the English side’s negotiating position. Nevertheless, there could be movement in the summer of 2026 if concrete offers in the aforementioned range arrive.

The 1.94-metre defender only moved to England from AC Milan in the summer of 2025 and has quickly established himself there. In the current 2025/26 season, he has made 25 Premier League appearances, started 24 times and scored four goals. The German international has not only shown himself to be defensively stable, but has also made his mark offensively with set pieces.

His current market value is estimated at around €40 million, but the transfer fee now being reported is significantly higher, which underlines the importance Thiaw enjoys internally and how high Newcastle are setting the hurdles for a transfer.

FC Bayern’s central defence is prominently staffed with Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, Minjae Kim and Hiroki Ito. Nevertheless, Thiaw’s name is still being bandied about. The situation in the center of defence remains exciting, especially in view of possible personnel decisions in the summer of 2026. Should Minjae Kim leave Munich, a place could become available for Thiaw.
