AS Monaco have expanded Carlos Avina’s remit following a meeting at La Turbie, while retaining Vadim Khetagov.
Held the day after Champions League play-off qualification and a 0-0 draw with Juventus at Louis-II, the session brought together staff from performance, team management and medical to redefine workloads. According to L’Équipe, general director Thiago Scuro was the main casualty of the reshuffle, with Avina now the sporting referent.
The Mexican will now be more involved across team management, the medical department and performance, as the squad contends with numerous injuries.
The claim of Scuro’s reduced influence has been denied, and the organisation chart remains unchanged, with Scuro continuing as general director across sporting and administrative matters. Monaco are 10th in Ligue 1 with Sébastien Pocognoli in the dugout.
Vadim Khetagov’s functions are unchanged within the performance unit. The Russian physiotherapist and kinesiologist, appointed by Dmitry Rybolovlev, keeps his post. Some players have questioned his methods in recent weeks.
