Player of the Matchday 21: Alhassan Yusuf

After netting a hat trick during a key road victory, New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been named MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob ULTRA for Matchday 21.

The Nigerian international scored all three goals in New England's 3-0 win at D.C. United on Wednesday evening. In doing so, he became the eighth player in club history to record a regular-season hat trick and the first Revolution player to do so since Kei Kamara on Sept. 2, 2017.

Yusuf is now up to five goals in 2026, which is a single-season high and the second-most on New England this season.

The victory helped the Revolution hold onto fourth place in the Eastern Conference (33 points; 10W-7L-3D).

Yusuf is the first New England player to be named Player of the Matchday since goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic on Matchday 19 in 2024. He is the first Nigerian-born player to earn the honor since former Minnesota United FC striker Tani Oluwaseyi on Matchday 4 in 2025.

Yusuf and New England look to keep momentum going when they host New York City FC on Sunday afternoon (4:30 pm ET | Apple TV).

The MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob ULTRA is selected each matchday of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while an Instagram fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
