New Inter signing Petar Sucic made his Serie A debut on Monday in the Nerazzurri’s 5-0 thrashing of Torino, picking up an assist and demonstrating an immediate presence and chemistry within Cristian Chivu’s midfield.
The 21-year-old joined Inter from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in June and made 4 appearances for the Nerazzurri in their Club World Cup campaign.
Speaking in an interview with the On Board series, with quotes via FcInter1908, Sucic revealed his humble beginnings, being raised on a farm and helping his family look after the animals: “I grew up in a small village, in a small town, with my family. We have a little farm, my father likes raising cows so we have a few of them. When I was a kid, I would sometimes help milk them. It was fun. I liked that lifestyle, I think I had a happy childhood. I was very happy, I spent the whole day outdoors. We also had other animals. That is a part of my life I will always remember.”

Sucic, unlike many of his peers, is noteworthy in the fact he chooses to stay off of social media. In an era when off-the-field presence can be vital for a number of reasons, the midfielders decision to opt out of that is admirable.
In the interview, the Croatian was asked why he chooses not to have social media accounts, to which he replied: “There’s no particular reason. I just don’t like wasting my time on social media. They are certainly a useful medium but you can throw away up to five hours a day on them. I much prefer living real life. We are always under the spotlight and surrounded by attention from media and journalists. After a match or training session, I need to relax, to switch my mind off and spend time with friends and family, that’s the main reason why I am not on social media.”
Sucic is the cousin of Real Sociedad midfielder Luka Sucic, who plays alongside him for the Croatian national team. Speaking about this familial connection, the Inter midfielder said: “He grew up in Austria but every year when he has some free time he comes to visit me and we play just like we did as kids, when we couldn’t imagine that one day we’d play together for the national team. We have to be proud of ourselves and our families are proud of us. When we were children, we used to watch the national team on TV together and now we play together for Croatia. For me, it is a special family story.”

Whilst Sucic arrives from the Croatian league, Inter have added a player who has already played on the biggest stage. Sucic has four Champions League appearances under his belt, making his debut at the age of 18 against Sheriff Tiraspol in a qualifying match.
Reflecting on that game, Sucic said: “The first memory is when I played in the Champions League with Dinamo Zagreb. It rained so heavily that I thought in the end the match would be called off. But then we went out onto the pitch – it was my first time in Europe, I was happy, excited and scored one of the best goals of my life. A night I will always remember.”
