A consortium led by Neil Lal has emerged with an interest in taking over Leicester City
A consortium led by Neil Lal is currently eyeing a bid to take over Leicester City amid speculation over a potential sale.
According to The Sun, the Scottish-Indian businessman, who is the chairman and president of The Indian Council of the United Kingdom, has issued an enquiry to the owners regarding a potential deal.
The Foxes are owned by King Power, led by the Srivaddhanaprabha family and most notably Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha.
King Power have been in charge of the League One side since 2010, and have been with the club through their remarkable 2016 Premier League title win, as well as their 2021 FA Cup triumph.
However, their time with the Leicestershire outfit could now come to an end, with a potential takeover now on the cards.
Russell Martin’s side began their league campaign last weekend, but it could be the start of a different new era at the King Power Stadium in the near future.

Lal has confirmed that an enquiry has been made regarding a potential takeover of Leicester by his consortium amid speculation of a potential sale.
He has identified a plan to get the Foxes back to the top of the English game, which will include utilising the expanding Indian market in order to generate new avenues for revenue in the future.
“We are looking at the Leicester situation and have written to the club for information with regards to the financials,” said Lal, via The Sun.
“Leicester City FC is a great football club with wonderful fans.
“If things go well and both sides are happy then we plan to build the club and put it right back in the top tier of football.
“India is a country of 1.4 billion people, we look to build bridges with different revenue streams from merchandising and streaming, which will not only increase revenue but will build bridges with new fan base on a global platform.
“These synergies are what is needed.”
Lal has also confirmed his plans to invest in Scottish giants Rangers, but has assured Leicester fans that there will be no significant changes to the club’s traditions, such as their kit colours or the crest.
He has claimed that their investment will seek to bring in a higher standard of player to the club, as well as to try and increase revenue across the globe.
It’s believed that an asking price of around £200 million has been set by King Power in order to achieve the sale of the League One club.
Leicester fans have raised their concerns around Lal’s reported net worth of around £2 million, suggesting that wouldn’t be enough to make an impact at the club.
Questions have been raised regarding this consortium’s ability to invest money into the Foxes long-term.
Some fans have dismissed the idea of Lal leading a takeover outright, even with issues surrounding the current ownership.
However, other supporters are optimistic and believe that the Scottish-Indian businessman is talking a lot of sense regarding his future plans.
Leicester began their League One campaign on Saturday with a 1-1 draw away to Notts County.

The first potential buyer has stepped forward to take over at Leicester, but it’s likely that there will be many suitors for the Foxes.
This is a club that was a regular in the Premier League, and even Europe, not too long ago, and their 2016 title win earned them international acclaim.
So their fall down to League One will see them as an asset that could be quickly turned back around into something quite valuable.
In the right hands, the £200 million asking price for Leicester could turn out to be a total steal, but it remains to be seen whether Lal and his backers are the right people for the job.
