Russell Martin said Louis Page’s omission from Leicester City’s squad was unrelated to the transfer situations of Stephy Mavididi and Wout Faes, as City opened their 2026/27 League One season with a 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane against Notts County.
“No, not at all. It’s a completely different situation. I had a good chat with Louis and I’ll have a chat with him on Monday,” said Martin. He was speaking to LeicestershireLive.
“We’re away from home, no centre-half [on the bench] Bade [Aluko] can cover that, Christian [McFarlane] as a fullback and can operate down the left side. Then we wanted to have as attacking a bench as we possibly could. Unfortunately for Louis, he missed out today.”
Martin confirmed before and after the match that Mavididi and Faes were omitted amid transfer speculation, with City turning down bids for both and accepting they probably will not be at the club much longer.
Page, 18, was not in the 18-man squad but travelled to Nottingham, watched from beside the dug-out and completed fitness work after full-time. He has been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal in recent weeks, and Martin said a bid for the midfielder had also been rejected.
