FC Bayern could see a major change in the goalkeeper position in the summer of 2027. Currently, there are strong indications that Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich will retire at the same time. Jonas Urbig will then become the starting goalkeeper, so a backup is needed.

Now there’s a new name being linked to FC Bayern. According to a report in BILD, the club in Munich is also looking into Bernd Leno. The 34-year-old currently plays for Fulham FC in the English Premier League and previously played in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart.

Leno is a regular starter for Fulham and a player who has consistently performed at a high level in the Premier League in recent years and is highly regarded. In addition to his experience, Bayern is also interested in the fact that Leno’s contract expires in the summer of 2027.

This means that FC Bayern can begin direct talks with the player as early as this winter. If a final decision regarding Neuer and Ulreich has been made by then, Bayern will have a very good opportunity to convince the player early on. Dahmen, the other candidate, will also be a free agent in the summer of 2027 if he does not extend his contract by then.

It is still unclear to what extent Leno himself is open to a move to Munich. That will likely only become apparent once contact is made. In any case, he fits the profile FC Bayern is looking for.
