New show for Luphumlo Sifumba after his return from Europe
Cape Town City FC midfielder Luphumlo "Kaka" Sifumba appears to be nearing a move to a new club following his recent return from a loan spell in Portugal.
The 20-year-old talent, who previously attracted attention with standout performances in youth tournaments and the DStv Diski Challenge, spent part of last season with FC Vizela. Although registration complications limited his availability, he managed to make a positive impression during his time abroad.
Both Vizela and Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana have maintained their interest in the player. Olimpija had previously shown serious intent after images surfaced of Sifumba training with the club, though they ultimately did not meet Cape Town City's valuation.
Since returning to his parent club, Sifumba has not featured in the early stages of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, prompting continued monitoring from European suitors. Currently, the player has joined Durban City FC for training under experienced coach Gavin Hunt, with discussions underway regarding a potential loan deal until the end of the season.
Sifumba, whose contract with Cape Town City runs until June 2026, remains a player in demand. The technically gifted playmaker—known for his creative passing and vision—won the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season award in the 2022/23 campaign, earning comparisons to Brazilian legend Kaká for his style of play.
Olimpija Ljubljana are expected to renew their pursuit in the January transfer window as Sifumba seeks a permanent resolution to regain consistent playing time.
