Sheffield Wednesday players haven't received their wages on time for five of the last seven months
Sheffield Wednesday have received a positive update regarding the club’s ability to pay players and staff on time.
The Owls recently entered administration after a torrid period of Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership, which saw the playing staff not receive payment at the correct time for five of the last seven months.
This led to some key operators such as Michael Smith and Josh Windass leaving Hillsborough for free, strengthening fellow Championship sides Preston North End and Wrexham in the process.
Wednesday were placed under five embargoes due to Chansiri’s mismanagement, limiting their transfer business to just loan deals for Ethan Horvath and Harry Amass. Coupled with an automatic 12-point deduction for entering administration, relegation now looks like an extremely likely possibility for the Steel City side.
However, a fresh update on their ability to pay players on the correct date will be a source of positivity for all those involved with the club.

As previously mentioned, failing to pay players and staff on time in 2025 was one of Chansiri’s major mishaps.
Those involved with the side have more often than not had to wait longer than usual to receive payment for their work, which can have a catastrophic impact on people’s livelihoods.
However, there may be no need to harbour any more concerns over whether staff can expect to be paid on time. According to Sky Sports football correspondent, Rob Dorsett, there’s a confidence that Wednesday’s players and staff can expect to receive their full wages when due on Friday.
The administrators who have now taken control of the Owls have reportedly made great strides in generating cash to cover whole wage bill.
After such a negative period of time, everyone involved at Hillsborough has suffered in 2025; this update will come as a huge relief for those who simply wish to be paid for the job they are doing.

After Sheffield Wednesday were placed into administration, there was an outburst of joy from supporters who started to believe that Chansiri’s reign was finally over.
There has been so much negativity swirling around Hillsborough in 2025, but the news that wages will be paid on time provides a much-needed shot of positivity for all those involved with the club.
Wednesday fans will hope that this is just the beginning of a series of progressive updates for the Steel City side and that a new owner will soon be on the way.
If this task is achieved, the Owls may once again feel an overriding emotion of joy when watching their football club on a regular basis, something which hasn’t been manageable for quite a while.
