There are still plenty of transfer rumors at FC Bayern, but sporting director Max Eberl has now clarified whether the record champions will be looking to strengthen their squad this winter
FC Bayern are six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table and are also just behind leaders Arsenal in second place in the Champions League. There are therefore no major reasons to strengthen the team at the moment. Nevertheless, sporting director Max Eberl was asked about his transfer plans for the winter at the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match against Heidenheim
His answer: „We are not looking outside because we have our squad […] We have communicated sufficiently that three injured players are coming back and are simply like new additions for us, who also have to be integrated first. They also have to get back to their level first. But that is what we have focused on and what the squad planning was also geared towards in the summer.“
However, Eberl does not want to put his feet up in the winter, because he wants to „prepare things now in the winter that may become interesting in the summer, but we will not bring in anything external in the winter.“
Instead of looking for new players, Eberl’s sporting management will probably focus on extending the contracts of existing players in the winter. One contract is particularly important to the sporting director: „The internal transfer of Upa is actually our top priority. But we have already communicated this sufficiently,“ explained Eberl
As far as an extension with the French central defender is concerned, Eberl was confident: „We want to and we’re stepping on the gas. Then we’ll see how quickly we can get it done.“
