Newcastle Airport adds 13 flights for Sunderland fans’ European trips | OneFootball

Newcastle Airport has added 13 extra direct flights to help Sunderland fans follow the team in Europe, set to cater for around 5,000 travellers. According to Sunderland Echo, the move follows the club’s first European campaign in 53 years starting with a 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar.

Trips to Portugal, Poland, Italy and Belgium are ahead, with the first away game against Torreense on 15 October. As the 2,500-capacity ground in Torres Vedras does not meet UEFA requirements, it will be played in Leiria between Lisbon and Porto.

Fans can fly direct to Lisbon with easyJet, and to Porto with Jet2.com.

Sunderland visit Lech Poznan on 22 October, with a direct charter available via WorldChoice Sports. Supporters can also fly with Ryanair to Gdansk or Wroclaw, then continue by rail or road to Poznan.

The standout tie is on 10 December, when Sunderland face seven-time European champions AC Milan at San Siro. easyJet will fly to Milan Malpensa, while Ryanair serves Milan Bergamo.

Charter options to Malpensa are also offered by Wonky Sheep, Sport Options and WorldChoice Sports, and package holidays including accommodation may be available.

For Anderlecht on 21 January, supporters can fly direct to Brussels with easyJet, or to Brussels Charleroi with Ryanair.

Existing links via Heathrow, Amsterdam and Paris offer connections to all of Sunderland’s European destinations.

Other home ties are against Dinamo Zagreb and Jagiellonia in November, then Levski Sofia in January.
