Matthias Jaissle kept his plans under wraps ahead of Monday night at Elland Road, with Newcastle sweating on Amar Dedic after the right-back felt hamstring discomfort and was withdrawn at half-time in the Carabao Cup third round win at Millwall this week. He said he treats injury matters confidentially and noted it did not appear too serious. The head coach suggested the change was precautionary but did not confirm his availability for Leeds.
Tino Livramento is available again after a shin issue that ruled him out of the World Cup, and he completed the second half at the New Den in midweek. According to Chronicle Live, he came through unscathed and produced several powerful runs down the right.
Jaissle said he was pleased Livramento got 45 minutes at a high level in difficult circumstances at Millwall and that the defender responded well. He added that the club’s performance staff had done an excellent job.
Asked about cover, he said Lewis Miley could also be used at right-back.
On Matias Fernandez-Pardo, the head coach said the midfielder is getting closer to starting after his first full training week since arriving, but his workload must be managed. A decision on his involvement will be taken on Sunday or even Monday.
