Matthias Jaissle reveals what convinced Nico González to sign for Newcastle ahead of potential debut | OneFootball

Matthias Jaissle believes that Newcastle United have many qualities to attract top players such as Nico González.

When asked about what convinced Nico González to join the club, Jaissle mentioned several factors that were key in making the move happen.

”With that fan base, with that history, this is a special club,” he said.

”We have a clear idea how we want to play football, we are brave in our approach, how we are targeting the future.

”I think all these aspects were influencing him in a positive way, so that he was finally convinced to join us.”

González is likely to be United’s marquee signing this summer, and has big shoes to fill, in replacing the likes of Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali.

The Spaniard was looking “sharp” in his first training session, Jaissle said, before adding that he is “an option for Saturday.”

The Magpies travel to north London to take on Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, where they will come up against Tonali.

When asked whether the Newcastle supporters should given the Italian the same reception received by Alexander Isak last weekend, Jaissle smiled before saying that the travelling fans should support their own players first.

”I would love that we have many, many supporters in London supporting us, that’s the most important thing, focussing on our lads, bringing that energy on the pitch.

“That was also the reason why we played a fantastic game against Liverpool and also now yesterday in the cup.”
