Newcastle United fought back from two goals down to rescue a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at St James' Park, denying the visitors a first Premier League victory under Marco Rose.

Bournemouth made the brighter start and took the lead inside 10 minutes. Alex Scott’s effort took a deflection and fell perfectly for Marcus Tavernier, who reacted quickly to poke the ball past Lukas Hornicek.

The Cherries soon had another huge opportunity, but Evanilson fired over after being played in behind the Newcastle defence.

The visitors eventually doubled their advantage when Justin Kluivert’s powerful effort struck the post before Scott’s follow-up cross deflected off Malick Thiaw and into the net.

Newcastle needed a response and got one before half-time. Harvey Barnes cut inside from the left before curling a superb finish into the top corner.

The hosts continued pushing after the break, with Joe Willock heading narrowly wide, but Bournemouth’s defence stood firm.

However, Newcastle finally found their equaliser two minutes from time. Jacob Ramsey kept his composure during a scramble inside the box and swept the ball into the bottom corner.

The result leaves Bournemouth with an unwanted record, becoming the first Premier League side to score first in each of their opening three matches without winning any.
