Magpies struggling with form and fitness ahead of Spurs clash
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe hope to have two players back to face Tottenham in a crucial Premier League clash on Tuesday night.
Howe has now overseen three defeats on the spin, and Newcastle are winless in five games. In light of a miserable home defeat to Brentford at the weekend, Howe has insisted that he is the man for the job, but says he is prepared to walk away if that changes.
“There's no doubt in my mind [that I can improve the form], and that's why I'm sat here,” He told reporters. “If there was, then I wouldn't be because, as I said, the club is the most important thing.
"I'd never put myself before the club. If I didn't think I was the correct man to take the team forward and I could give the players what they need, then I would step aside and let someone else do it."
The Newcastle boss will look at a trip to Tottenham, who he has lost to just once in eight matches, as a chance to turn the tide, and he hopes to have Lewis Miley and Anthony Gordon available in north London.
"Miley, I need to see today, we will get another update on his progress,” Howe said. "He got a nasty bang to his leg, so it was a dead leg, and it has dragged on a little bit longer than we thought so we will see how he is.
"Gordon, we will make a check on him and see how he is progressing today. Hopefully, a big improvement from him."
Howe was more clear cut on Joelinton’s availability, who “won't make this game.”
