Newcastle reach agreement with Benfica to sign Amar Dedic | OneFootball

Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Benfica to sign Amar Dedic, per Sky Sports. 

The deal is said to be worth £29.5 million, and Dedic is set to fly to the Tyneside club to undergo his medical on Monday. 

The 23-year-old will likely be unveiled as a Newcastle player in time for their Premier League opener against Liverpool next Sunday. 

New manager Matthias Jaissle knows Dedic well, having previously worked with him at Red Bull Salzburg. 

The right-back made 95 senior appearances for the Austrian side before joining Benfica last summer. 

He hit the ground running at the Estadio da Luz, making 46 appearances across all competitions to help his team finish third in the Portuguese league. 

Newcastle have been in the market for a new right-back after Kieran Trippier left on a free transfer. 

Tino Livramento picked up a calf injury during international duty with England. 

The 23-year-old hasn’t recovered yet, meaning Dedic could be immediately called upon to feature for Newcastle. 

The former Red Bull Salzburg star can operate in both full-back positions and is highly rated for his speed, ball progression and high-intensity defensive work rate. 

He has earned 31 caps for Bosnia & Herzegovina and featured in three games at the summer’s World Cup in North America. 

It has been a summer of change at Newcastle. The club have lost Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes to Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal respectively. 

Eddie Howe also stepped down as head coach to be replaced by Jaissle. 

Newcastle haven’t made many exciting additions, and they are tipped to endure a difficult 2026-27 season.
