We wanted to get a snapshot of how Newcastle United fans are thinking.

Three months into the season and 17 matches played so far across three competitions.

Now in the November international break and Newcastle United fans seeing their team win eight games, draw three, lose six.

Those results summing up a start to the season with plenty of ups and downs.

Plenty to talk about as we ask a number of Newcastle United fans, who are regular/irregular contributors to The Mag, to give us their views on the season so far, plus what will happen as we move forward.

Next up is Greg McPeake and his 14 year old son Chuks answering the questions.

Eight months ago, Eddie Howe banked the first trophy for Newcastle in 56 years, then two months later secured a second Champions League qualification in three years. Some Newcastle fans appear to be questioning his position now. What are your thoughts on Eddie Howe and how much more time has he earned to get the league position sorted and beyond that, or not?

Greg – Eddie Howe is untouchable in my book. Who could replace him? I love the guy for giving me that moment when we won a trophy. Others may scoff and belittle the League Cup but winning a trophy, no need to say any more.

Chuks – If we lose our next two away games there will be pressure and the team will have to perform, otherwise he’s gone.

Would winning the Carabao Cup again this season BUT finishing outside the Premier League top six, be success or failure?

Greg- Success. If we can repeat the feeling I had as I stood in Covent Garden with my teenage lad, chucking beer down my neck after winning that trophy, words can not describe.

Chuks – No no no no. It’s a rubbish competition. Howe is deluded if he thinks we can challenge on all fronts

Hand on heart, what is your best estimate (not hope!) of where Newcastle United will end up this season in the Premier League, the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup, how well they will realistically do in each of them?

Greg- After so many years of disappointment, a lifetime that is, I do not expect a trophy this season but expect to be up for a place in Europe. We deserve that as a minimum and will once again be massively disappointed if we are not there.

Chuks – We are not Man City, we need to prioritise Prem and Champions League.

Three words to describe how you currently feel as a Newcastle fan?

Greg – Happy, concerned, confident

Chuks – Embarrassed by Pope

Three words to describe Newcastle United now?

Greg- Constrained by rules

Chuks – Sell Nick Pope

Alexander Isak – Time to forgive and forget…?

Greg – Couldn’t believe the guy would throw away his status as a Newcastle legend as he was after scoring that Wembley goal. The lad obviously doesn’t get what it means to Newcastle United fans, what it is to represent a city and a people who have been so desperately deprived of success. To want to wear that red shirt that I despise, ahead of the black and white, sums up the modern footballer in my opinion. Forgive, forget, are not the words. Disgust is the word and that applies unfortunately to many footballers.

Chuks – Hell no.

His career is going downhill. Ekitike is ahead of him.

If you had to choose. A win against Sunderland but lose to Fulham in Carabao Cup quarter-final, or lose to Sunderland and go through to Carabao Cup semi-finals?

Greg- Cup semi final all day for me. I think some supporters spend far too much energy hating on them from down the road. My oldest brother married a lifelong Sunderland supporter. We should not give them any of our energy. Let them rot.

Chuks – Don’t care. We need to get out of the Carabao Cup to focus on the Prem and Champions League.

In order, which six NUFC players have been the most impressive so far this 2025/26 season?

Greg

Woltemade even if he wasn’t kicking on he puts the Dulwich Hamlet hipsters in the shade with his fashion style.

Dan Burn one of us and can curl a header, nuff said. Tonali never wanted to be with us but through circumstance finds himself loved by the Toon. Bruno and big Joe simply because they are. Thiaw looks the perfect fit.

Chuks – Woltemade, Thiaw, Tonali, Trippier, Bruno, Barnes

In order, by the end of the 2025/26 season, which six NUFC players do you think will have proved the top performers?

Greg – Woltemade Thiaw Tonali Bruno Hall Murphy

Chuks – Woltemade, Thiaw, Tonali, Trippier, Bruno, Barnes

What do you think about how the summer transfer window was conducted by Newcastle United?

Greg – Absolute shambles. The Isak situation sums it up. What a mess! The two German lads are the silver lining.

Chuks – Honestly, 7 out of 10 if Elanga lives up to the hype around him.

In the future after they have all finished their Newcastle United careers, what is your guesstimate on how the six summer signings will each be assessed. In each case – Thiaw, Ramsdale, Ramsey, Woltemade, Elanga and Wissa to be seen as one of these three choices – A success, Done OK, Failure.

Greg – The German lads are a definite success. Ramsdale will be a failure if he doesn’t get given a chance but I would play him ahead of Pope. Give him the chance to be the success. Ramsey has done OK so far. Elanga at Forest was a smash, hence the price tag and should be a success. Wissa can hopefully strike up a partnership with Woltemade and so be a success.

Chuks – I forgot Wissa played for us.

Sunderland are now back in the same division and at this moment ahead of NUFC, your thoughts?

Greg – Try not to spend time thinking about Sunderland, hopefully they hit a wall and are relegated this season.

Chuks – Sunderland look good and doing a proper job but awful club and awful fans.

What would represent success in the 2025/26 season for Newcastle United?

Greg – A trophy or Champions League qualification either keeps the club on the right trajectory to grow

Chuks – Selling Nick Pope would be a start. Getting Champions League.

What do you see as the minimum to achieve this coming season?

Greg – Top six should be achievable. Anything else is a bonus. Chuks – Champions League qualification.

Predict the top six in the Premier League (in order) and which three clubs will be relegated.

Greg – Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Villa, Man U, Newcastle Wolves, Burnley, Sunderland

Chuks – Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Spurs Wolves, Leeds, West Ham

Next three seasons, would you rather finish top four all three seasons BUT win nothing, or finish mid-table all three seasons AND win the FA Cup in one of the three?

Greg – Give me the FA Cup. When I was a kid, it was the best day of the football season. If only it was a 3 o’clock kick off and the match build up started at 9am.

Chuks – Champions League is where it is at. The FA cup means nothing.

What are your thoughts on the fact that we are now more than four years after the takeover and still no plans announced on a new training ground, nor a far bigger capacity stadium (either brand new one, or an increased capacity St James’ Park)?

Greg – This is the big frustration. The lack of transparency and information on so many fronts.

Chuks – Don’t think a new stadium is happening, simple as that.

If Newcastle United were to look to the transfer market to strengthen the team/squad in January, what do you see as the priority (or priorities…)?

Greg – Strengthen up front. Attacking options are way too shallow.

Chuks – Get Trafford from Man City.

Would you say winning the Carabao Cup last season has made you more content, or now more desperate to get the next one?

Greg – Definitely more content. The day after the final I went into work. My Liverpool supporting colleagues nowhere to be seen. The many Arsenal supporters, I took great pleasure in telling them we bossed the game at the Emirates and did not fluke/cheat a win in the final. We were the best.
