In a recent report, The Telegraph stated that Newcastle United have set their sights on Brighton and Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro this summer. It is understood that the Magpies are ready to step up their efforts to sign the Brazilian striker.
Pedro caught the eye at times with his performances as the focal point of Brighton’s attack last season. The Brazilian attacker participated in 30 matches for the Seagulls in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net ten times and picking up seven assists in the process across various competitions.
The 23-year-old managed to shine at times up top and did well to average 1.94 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, Pedro kept only 35.7% of his attempts on target. He also needs to find a way to improve his link-up play in the opposition half based on his pass completion rate of 72.9% in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).
Pedro is under contract at the American Express Community Stadium until the summer of 2028. Hence, the Magpies would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting the Brazilian forward this off-season.

Pedro can find some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive third of the field.
The Brazilian sensation can make some dangerous runs with the ball as well but needs to improve his passing in the final third. Pedro is primarily a centre-forward but can also operate as a left-sided wide player if told to do so by his manager. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Newcastle.
Pedro would enhance the quality of Eddie Howe’s frontline. He could even go on to form a deadly offensive partnership with Alexander Isak at the Tyneside club.
At 23, Pedro still has a lot of room to grow as a footballer. Therefore, Newcastle should focus on trying everything they can to snap him up in this summer transfer period.
