Newcastle United to receive Yoane Wissa compensation | OneFootball

Newcastle United are set to receive compensation from the FIFA Club Protection Programme for Yoane Wissa.

This is an insurance scheme that covers players who are injured whilst on international duty.

Yoane Wissa picked up a knee injury on 9 September 2025 when playing for DR Congo and was subbed in a 3-2 World Cup group qualifier defeat, Senegal’s late winner dealing a massive blow to DR Congo’s chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup finals.

It was a huge blow of course to Newcastle United as well, having only just spent serious money on the Premier League experienced goalscorer.

The Mail report that Newcastle United have now applied to FIFA to trigger the compensation via the Club Protection Programme.

There is an excess period on the insurance scheme whereby nothing is paid for the first 28 days of the TDD (Temporary Total Disablement).

Then after that the insurance money is paid by FIFA to cover the player’s wages until he is available to play again for his club. In the case of Yoane Wissa, the wages should start being covered from around 7 October 2025 until the striker makes his first team playing return (and NUFC debut!).

As you can see below, insurance is due for each day the player is unavailable but with an upper limit of €20,548 per day, which is around £18,000.

That works out at around about totally covering a player’s wages who earns up to £126,000 per week, which should cover most, maybe all, of Wissa’s wages.

Hopefully Newcastle United will not need compensating for too many days without Yoane Wissa…

FIFA Club Protection Programme 2023-2026 rules:

The Programme compensates football clubs for up to a maximum of EUR 7,500,000 per football player per accident.

The maximum of EUR 7,500,000 is calculated at a daily “pro rata” compensation of up to EUR 20,548 (1/365), which is payable for a maximum of 365 days. The maximum daily compensation is limited to EUR 20,548 per accident.

The maximum capacity (“aggregate limit”) of the FIFA Club Protection Programme is EUR 80,000,000 per annum.
