Away at Burnley today, goals late in the first half from Kacey Wooster and Matty Taylor put United in control.

Burnley halved the deficit in the second half but Alfie Seldon then made it a 3-1 win for the young Newcastle United stars.

Great to see that investment in recruitment, facilities and coaching is paying dividends.

Unlike what we witnessed under Mike Ashley, where like every other part of the club, the owner refused to allow any money to be spent on the Academy unless forced to.

This led to the Newcastle United Under 18s regularly finishing in the bottom few teams in the youth league, season after season.

As you can see, United above the likes of Liverpool and Man U, only Manchester City above.

This was always going to be a very long and ongoing process BUT undeniable progress under these Newcastle United owners and their staff, with the massive turnaround that was needed.

Patience has to be shown and a massive shake up and upgrade increasingly put in place for the Academy, essential investment to repair the damage of 14+ years of Mike Ashley.

This couldn’t be sorted overnight, especially when you are talking about bringing kids/young players through, it is a situation where you put the right things and investment in place and then in the years ahead you potentially reap the benefits.

Still a long way to go but when making the essential progressive investment in facilities and coaching, the outlook can look ever better with each passing season, as what happens now can produce the stars of the future.

In recent days we saw confirmation that Newcastle United had landed exciting 15 year old central defensive prospect Josh Kenchington from Barnsley. Labelled the ‘new John Stones’, United fought off competition from a host of Premier League clubs including Spurs and Man U. Newcastle paying a reported £375,000 for the 15 year old, with a commitment to a lot more money to be paid out if/when he hits certain targets.
