‘Something is moving’ for Newcastle United and Coventry City target Fikayo Tomori, who would ‘prefer’ to come back to the Premier League.

Newcastle are having a transfer window which is bringing big change as they have lost their midfield crown jewel duo of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

And they have been knocked back by a number of top targets for other destinations, such as the likes of Victor Munoz and Johan Manzambi, who preferred other Premier League clubs.

Very recently, ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojberg rejected a move to the Tyneside outfit, despite Newcastle being prepared to pay Marseille’s price.

Newcastle, though, are not ready to give up on their other targets as they want to sign a quality centre-back to secure their backline ahead of the new season.

Last month, Newcastle asked AC Milan about former England defender Tomori, who spent the majority of his career in England before leaving the Premier League five years ago.

The 28-year-old has been constantly linked with a potential comeback to the English top-flight over the years and this summer has been no different.

Newly promoted Coventry are also keen on the former Chelsea player, who is well known by Frank Lampard, and who could be leaving Ruben Amorim’s side in the coming weeks.

And according to Italian outlet Milan News, ‘something is moving’ for Tomori in the final few weeks of the summer window.

It has been suggested that amid his exit talks, the English central defender prefers a move back to the Premier League.

The Rossoneri are clear that they want to offload him, with only one year left on his current deal at San Siro.

In the past few hours, contacts have been established with the entourage, as his departure from AC Milan looks like a matter of time now.

The 28-year-old has close to 200 senior appearances under his belt, and the likes of Coventry and Newcastle feel his experience fits them well.

Lampard’s side have already beefed up their backline with the arrival of Aurele Amenda, and a potential capture of Tomori would be seen as a coup for the promoted side.

It is unclear which club are making a move for Tomori and pushing things along, but he is unlikely to be at AC Milan beyond the closure of the window.
