Neymar was mobbed by supporters on Monday as Brazil’s squad set off for the United States, stopping outside the team hotel to sign autographs and pose for photos.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the No. 10 is recovering from calf oedema, remains in treatment and has not yet been cleared to return to the pitch. He still took time to acknowledge the fans before the flight for the 2026 World Cup.
Brazil will base themselves in the state of New Jersey for their preparations. Carlo Ancelotti’s side face Egypt in a friendly on 6 June, and Neymar is not expected to feature. The expectation is that he will resume ball work straight after that fixture.
His availability for the opener against Morocco on 13 at MetLife Stadium remains under evaluation.
The 2026 tournament will be Neymar’s fourth World Cup. Brazil reached the semi-finals in 2014, then went out in the quarter-finals in 2018 and 2022.
He has recently said this should be his last World Cup, while keeping his aim of helping Brazil win a sixth title. The national team’s all-time leading scorer, Neymar has 79 goals and 59 assists in 128 appearances.
