According to Globo, Neymar, 34, has been named in Brazil’s provisional squad to face France on 26 March and Croatia on 1 April in Boston.

The Brazil record scorer, 79 goals in 128 caps, has not played for the Seleção since 18 October 2023, a 2-0 loss to Uruguay when he suffered an ACL rupture.

After leaving PSG for Al-Hilal in summer 2023, injuries have blighted him. Now back at Santos, he returned on 16 February and scored twice against Vasco da Gama. He still hopes to make the World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July, and has discussed retiring at the end of the year.

He was also pre-called by Ancelotti in August 2025, but was omitted from the final list after a thigh problem days before it was announced.

Ancelotti, 66, will confirm his final squad on Monday 16 March. Before then he will travel to Mirassol on Tuesday night with coordinator Rodrigo Caetano to watch the Santos playmaker in a league match. If Neymar remains fit, he could yet benefit from compatriot Rodrygo’s serious injury to secure a spot on the plane to the United States at the end of the month.
