Neymar Jr trained fully with Brazil in New Jersey on Sunday and has been cleared to resume full squad work. He has rejoined ahead of Carlo Ancelotti’s initial timeline.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the number 10 could be available for Brazil’s meeting with Scotland on Wednesday 24 at 19:00 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the last round of the first phase of the World Cup.

He was on the bench but unavailable for the 1-1 draw with Morocco at MetLife Stadium in the opener. He did not travel for the second match in Philadelphia.

The injury came a day before Ancelotti named his final squad. Neymar captained Santos and started in the 3-0 defeat by Coritiba at Neo Químixa Arena on 17 May, in round 16 of the Brasileirão.

He was at the centre of a refereeing controversy over a misleading substitution. Santos initially diagnosed a two millimetre oedema in his right calf after a heavy knock, but CBF tests later found a grade two muscle injury.

Since then he has followed an intensive programme of physiotherapy, strength work and load control set by the CBF medical department. His return fits the timeframe outlined by the federation.

This is his fourth World Cup in the number 10 shirt, after 2014, 2018 and 2022. He has said publicly it will be his last, styling it his last dance on social media. Brazil’s record goalscorer, he is also one of the squad’s leaders.
