Ngumoha makes history as England beat Czechia in UEFA Nations League | OneFootball

England beat Czechia 2-0 in the UEFA Nations League at Fortuna Arena on Tuesday.

Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha featured during the game, becoming England’s youngest player to make a competitive debut in the last five years.

Czechia nearly opened the scoring early on when Pavel Sulc pounced on a defensive mistake to run through on goal, but James Trafford quickly came off his line to clear the danger.

England should have scored with their first attempt in the 15th minute, with Morgan Rogers striking the woodwork. Harry Kane then failed to make a clean connection on the rebound before Bukayo Saka’s effort was blocked.

Sulc was sent off inside the opening half hour following his dangerous tackle on Elliot Anderson, reducing Czechia to 10 men.

England pushed for the opener before halftime, but could not pose much threat to Matej Kovar in the Czechia goal.

Two minutes into the second half, the Three Lions opened the scoring. Trent Alexander-Arnold whipped a cross into the area for Anthony Gordon to nod the visitors ahead.

Shortly after, Lewis Hall should have doubled the lead when Gordon cut the ball back to him, but the Newcastle United defender dragged his shot wide.

England were denied from scoring again by the woodwork on the hour mark as Ladislav Krejci turned Hall’s cross onto his own post.

The woodwork could not prevent Kane from sealing England’s victory in the 69th minute as the ball fell kindly to the Bayern Munich striker to find the far corner.

The victory takes England to second in Group C following Spain’s victory over Croatia.

Thomas Tuchel’s side take on Croatia on Saturday, before hosting Czechia on Tuesday.
