Elye Wahi (23) has begun the process of applying for a biometric passport during a visit to the Consulate General of Côte d’Ivoire in Paris, the authority announced on Facebook.
The forward, who was loaned by Eintracht Frankfurt to OGC Nice this winter, should therefore very soon be able to represent his parents’ country of origin. In which case, given the progress of his application, Wahi could well be part of the squad selected by Émerse Faé to fly to the United States next June, where the Elephants will compete in the World Cup. Drawn in Group E, they will face Germany, Ecuador and Curaçao.
Before that, the 2023 African champions are set to face South Korea and Scotland on 28th and 31st March respectively. All this ahead of a World Cup warm-up match against France on 4 June.
Wahi, who has represented France at various youth levels, could thus be reunited with some of his former teammates.
