Nick Woltemade continued his great form for Newcastle United on Sunday.
The striker making his fifth United start and scoring his fourth goal for the club.
A splendid penalty into the top corner showing top level technique, Forest keeper Sels left rooted to the spot.
However, Nick Woltemade has not joined up with the Germany squad.
The German FA officially confirming in a statement on Monday that the NUFC star has succumbed to a virus.
“Nick Woltemade will not be travelling today due to a flu infection.”
The Germany squad was announced last week (see below) to play World Cup group qualifiers at home to Luxembourg on Friday 10 October, then away against Northern Ireland in Belfast on Monday 13 October.
The Mag report – 2 October 2025:
Julian Nagelsmann has announced his latest Germany squad.
This is for the upcoming October internationals when they will play two World Cup qualifiers.
Germany are at home to Luxembourg in Sinsheim on Friday 10 October.
Then on Monday 13 October they take on Northern Ireland in Belfast.
In a four team group with only the top one guaranteed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals, the Germany squad already up against it.
Two of six group games already played and Germany lost the first of those 2-0 away to Slovakia, before Nagelsmann’s players won 3-1 at home to Northern Ireland.
In November the final two Germany group games are played, Luxembourg away and then last one is home to Slovakia.
Germany could well still win the group if convincingly winning that Slovakia match, however, they almost certainly need to with these other three matches in the meantime.
Germany Squad for the October 2025 World Cup qualifiers:
Goalkeepers: Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel, Finn Dahmen
Defenders:
Waldemar Anton, Ridle Baku, Nathanial Brown, Robin Koch, David Raum, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jonathan Tah
Midfielders:
Karim Adeyemi, Nadiem Amiri, Robert Andrich, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Jamie Leweling, Felix Nmecha, Angelo Stiller, Florian Wirtz
Forwards:
Maximilian Beier, Jonathan Burkardt, Nick Woltemade
As you can see, Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade retains his place in the Germany squad.
However, no place as yet for his NUFC teammate Malick Thiaw, who has previously made appearances for the national side. If he keeps up the levels he has shown so far since joining Newcastle, it will surely be impossible for Thiaw to be overlooked in the future.
