Niclas Füllkrug opens up on West Ham struggles after impressive Werder return | OneFootball

After two difficult years abroad, things have started moving in the right direction for Niclas Füllkrug following his return to Werder Bremen on loan from West Ham United.

It's safe to say that the forward has hit the ground running in Germany, having scored four goals in five competitive appearances. That has pleased the Werder Bremen bosses, as has the fact that the 33-year-old has managed to stay injury-free so far.

This stands in stark contrast to his time at West Ham, when he was repeatedly sidelined with injuries and mainly muscle problems – something that had rarely been an issue before his move to England.

“You only have to look at my medical record: I’ve had to suffer a lot, but almost never because of muscle injuries,” Füllkrug said in an interview with Sport Bild, looking back at the year and a half he spent in England before moving to AC Milan on loan for the second half of last season.

“I can’t really explain why things went so badly for me at West Ham. England probably isn’t made for me as a type of player or as an athlete either,” he added.

“Now I just hope that everything stays the way it is.”

Füllkrug remains under contract with West Ham until the summer of 2028, having joined the Hammers from Borussia Dortmund for €27 million in 2024.
