While they have focused mainly on the defense to strengthen their team for the next season, Real Madrid also signed a new midfielder, Bernardo Silva, who is expected to help with the problem of limited creativity that kept the Merengue attack from performing at its optimal level last season, this summer.
With his arrival, the Portuguese midfielder would be competing with Arda Guler, Jude Bellingham, and Brahim Diaz for the attacking midfielder position. Furthermore, his signing also made it very difficult for Nico Paz to return to the white club and compete for a starting spot.
In such a scenario, the Argentine wanted to remain at Como for the time being. Meanwhile, Real Madrid wanted to secure both his future and his continued playing time, and thus, came up with an innovative setup. Thus, they exercised their €9 million buyback clause on him, and offered Como to re-sign him this very summer, in exchange for €60 million, while also having the right to buy him back next year for €80 million.
Como have already accepted this proposal, and an agreement between the involved sides has already been officially announced by the Merengue club. In their official statement, the Vikings have confirmed that they will have a buyback option on the player, which they can exercise unilaterally next season.
Meanwhile, as MARCA has reported, Nico Paz himself also published a statement on his social media on the eve of this transfer. His message went as follows:
“After many weeks of careful thought, I have decided that the best option for my career at this moment is to stay at Como for one more year, the club that gave me the opportunity to grow and become the player I am today.
Personally, I believe this is the best decision both for me and for Real Madrid, as this is a very important year in this stage of my career and a unique opportunity to continue developing as a footballer and prepare myself in the best possible way for the future.”
Returning to Real Madrid this summer was clearly not the best way forward for the player, not only because of the competition, but also because of the uncertainty surrounding the club following a very tumultuous last season. Hopefully, Nico Paz would take full advantage of his continued stay at Como, and return to the white club next year as an even better player next year.
