Nico Williams deletes retweet amid Athletic fan backlash over Spain injury | OneFootball

Nico Williams shared a post on X after criticism from parts of the Athletic support following his latest Spain injury against Croatia on Tuesday.

According to El Correo, the winger retweeted user @GxldNiKo, who attacked bandwagon and ungrateful fans, argued Athletic are not unique or different to others, and even said Williams should have left when Barcelona were interested.

The message also wished the Navarre-born forward a speedy recovery, complete with a bandaged heart emoji. Williams amplified it to his followers, then deleted the retweet soon after.

A separate post from the same account, not shared by Williams, credited him with effectively winning the Copa final on his own, said it would have ended earlier had the forwards been more clinical, and recalled a Champions League-qualifying season and a Europa League strike against Roma.

Williams has a moderate muscle injury to his left rectus femoris, which forced him to leave Spain’s camp. The full extent is unknown and his return date for Athletic is unclear, though indications are he could be sidelined for at least a month.
