Nico Williams names surprise Real Madrid star as Ballon d’Or candidate | OneFootball

Athletic Club star Nico Williams has this weekend named a leading member of the defensive ranks at Real Madrid as a deserving candidate for the next Ballon d’Or.

The player in question? Dani Carvajal.

Stopper Carvajal, for his part, is fresh off nothing short of a spectacular season with the aforementioned Real Madrid.

En route to another domestic and continental double, the 32-year-old played an absolutely pivotal role in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

All told, Carvajal racked up 41 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with a head-turning 11 goal contributions along the way.

Not only that, but the right-back has since followed up with a stellar Euro 2024 campaign to date, too.

And one fellow member of Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad whom as much has certainly not been lost on comes in the form of the aforementioned Nico Williams.

Speaking in an interview with Diario AS this weekend, wide-man Nico was asked:

“Who among Spain’s players who are here are deserving of the Ballon D’Or?”

And the in-demand Athletic Club man did not hesitate in responding:

“Dani Carvajal”
