Nico Williams provides explanation for Barcelona rejection | OneFootball

Athletic Club star Nico Williams has this weekend provided a fresh insight into his decision to turn down a move to Barcelona.

The name of wide-man Williams, of course, took its place front and centre in the media headlines throughout last summer’s transfer window.

This came with the 22-year-old’s continued excellence for club and country alike having sparked widespread interest in his signature.

Barcelona, for one, pushed hard to bring Nico in for much of the summer, eager to unite the Spanish international with close friend Lamine Yamal.

At one point during the window, the transfer, in fact, was labelled essentially a formality.

Speaking to the media this weekend, the subject of why exactly his move to Catalunya failed to go through was in turn put to Nico himself once more.

And the attacker, during an interview with France Football (as cited by Goal), went on to explain:

“This relationship we have at the heart of the club is incredible. Everyone respects everyone else, which is incredible. This atmosphere, I’ll never have it anywhere else. I decided to stay because of that. I took the decision I thought was the right one. I’m happy, and I’m trying to do my best.”
