Nicolas de Tavernost has revisited his departure in a new book, citing internal splits among Ligue 1 clubs and conflicts of interest during his spell running LFP Media. He is president of Stade Rennais’ supervisory board.

In La télé comme jamais, published this week, he reflects on running LFP Media and the Ligue 1+ platform, according to L'Équipe. He credits the LFP team’s professionalism, noting the service was built in less than three months and launched with one million subscribers.

He writes that in spring last year he had secured for Ligue 1+ the pay-TV exclusivity of 104 matches at the 2026 World Cup, with M6 to broadcast 54 free-to-air. He considered this a major asset for the new platform.

Although the contract had been signed, he says the rights ultimately went to beIN Sports at the last moment, in circumstances he considered irregular. He wanted to challenge the decision to protect Ligue 1+ but says he was not backed, so he quit LFP Media.

He closes by contrasting the episode with almost 40 years at M6, where he says shareholder, management and staff would unite when the company’s interests were at stake.
