Nicolas de Tavernost intends to leave LFP Media after beIN Sports beat the league’s Ligue 1+ platform to the 2026 World Cup pay-TV rights.
An emergency LFP board meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon after the development came to light. According to L'Équipe, beIN Sports has secured the entire pay-TV package for 2026.
After talks with FIFA, Ligue 1+ had returned a signed contract worth about 20 million euros, comprising 17 million euros in rights and 2.5 million in production costs.
beIN Sports, whose parent beIN Media Group is chaired by Nasser al-Khelaïfi, who is also PSG president, moved ahead of the LFP platform. De Tavernost believes some clubs, notably PSG, are not playing their part.
Faced with this situation, which within LFP Media has been perceived as sustained hostility, he told the board he can no longer carry out his role effectively.
The former M6 president, 75, wants to step aside and plans to remain in post until the league appoints a successor.
