INEOS have been ruthless in their pursuit to reshape Manchester United’s football structure and backroom staff to give Erik ten Hag the best possible platform to succeed in his third season at the club.

Both Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy have been shown the exit door in favour of René Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who are set to accompany Ten Hag on the touchline moving forward.

Interestingly, so far Dan Ashworth, the club’s new sporting director, has shown no desire to replace Steve McClaren.

The former Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant returned to Old Trafford to help Ten Hag in 2022. He worked with the Dutchman in the Netherlands during his time at FC Twente.

However, now it appears McClaren may decide to depart United amid interest from Nigeria.

According to Nigerian outlet SoccerNet, the former Newcastle United manager has emerged on the shortlist of managers the Nigeria national team is considering as Finidi George’s replacement.

The Super Eagles want to hire a new manager before the start of their AFCON qualification bid in September. The 63-year-old veteran manager is on a three-man shortlist alongside Herve Renard and Tom Saintfiet.

The report states that McClaren has already held talks regarding the vacant position. However, there are concerns in some corners over the fact that he has no experience of managing in Africa.

Still, McClaren has tried his hand at international football before. He led England from 2006 to 2007.

Meanwhile, the Three Lions have also started their search for a new main man on the bench after Gareth Southgate’s decision to step down from his role on the back of the Euros final defeat at the hands of Spain over the weekend.

Southgate was heavily linked with the Red Devils before the start of the Euros due to uncertainty over Ten Hag’s future at the club.

However, The Peoples Person covered a report suggesting the ex-England boss is “highly unlikely” to be considered for the big role at the Theatre of Dreams.
