Nmecha is preparing for his fourth Borussia Dortmund season, which begins with the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Bayern München on Saturday.

After an early World Cup exit with Germany, he eased back into training, then joined the tour in Japan for a run-out against FC Tokyo. "So I'm enjoying it," he said, speaking to the DFL.

"I'm looking forward to the season. I have a lot of goals and things that I want to do this season."

"I think that's one area we can definitely improve, to have more games where we just see the game out at the end and aren't fighting to the last minute to get the points." Dortmund conceded 34 league goals last season, their best since 2015/16, down from 51 in 2024/25.

"Jobe made a lot of steps last season," he said. "I think I was definitely seeing myself as a leader and someone who's taking responsibility in the team last year." He played 29 league games in 2025/26, recording two goals and three assists, and totalled 3,118 minutes in all competitions.

He made four World Cup appearances with one goal and one assist, including Germany's first of the tournament against Curaçao. "Everyone's really looking forward to working with him," he said of new national coach Jürgen Klopp.

"It's a big game. We know how much quality Bayern have." Dortmund's last Supercup win over Bayern came in 2019, and their most recent meeting five years ago ended 3-1 to the Bavarians.
