„No more signings“: Sporting Director Freund closes the door on transfers at FC Bayern | OneFootball

Today, Tuesday, is Deadline Day, which remains hugely important for many clubs. Things are likely to be fairly quiet at FC Bayern, as sporting director Christoph Freund has now confirmed. 

At the press conference ahead of Bayern’s DFB Cup match against VfL Osnabrück, Freund stated that while there may still be some departures, the club is done with signings.

Bayern is therefore not reacting to the impending departure of Arijon Ibrahimović to FC Augsburg, nor to the injury of Maycon Cardozo, who will be sidelined for three months with a shoulder injury requiring surgery.

“We won’t be making any more signings. As for departures, things can definitely still happen. There are several transfer windows that remain open for longer. We’re very, very happy with our roster,” Freund explained at Bayern’s press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Cup match against Osnabrück.

Bayern is relying above all on the versatility of many players. Nathaniel Brown, for example, can play in multiple positions. He’s being deployed in several roles; most recently, he played as the “10” and even scored a goal from that position in the Super Cup.

Overall, the Bayern squad is a bit thin, especially when you consider the many competitions in which the record champions are playing. While this is intended to give young talents the chance to make the roster time and again, it naturally also carries risks if two or three first-team players—who may even play similar positions—are sidelined at the same time.

In Munich, however, they’re consciously taking this risk, just as they did last season. It remains to be seen whether this will pay off or if they’ll have to make additional signings in the winter.
