Crystal Palace head coach Laura Kaminski says that there is no pressure on her side to pick up points sooner rather than later.

The Eagles have lost both of their opening two games in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. Crystal Palace have conceded 11 goals while they are yet to score themselves.

When speaking to the media ahead of this afternoon’s fixture at Leicester City, Kaminski said that there is no pressure on her side to pick up points and that the focus is on continuing to build on performances week-on-week.

“Last season, I never put any pressure on for points,” Kaminski said. “Although this season looks very different, I don’t think it benefits the players psychologically in terms of their motivation.

“I really do believe that I have a group that want to play well, perform well and play lovely football with the ball. There are games where you can’t play lovely football, the game is not always beautiful football.

“I pride myself on the variety of skillset that we have here and can utilise and I think that the players really take a lot of pride from the way they perform, the way that they play. They’re always willing to reflect, learn and push forward and this season is no different. I’ve got young players, players with very few WSL appearances and players that have played in the WSL, abroad and internationally but they’ve all got the same willingness to get better for the team, for the club and for the fans.

“They know that points are very important; we want to get points on the board but we are very early in. We have shown great signs of progression, great signs of improvement and that’s the path that we will continue on.

“We want to pride ourselves on not conceding and improve the conversion of our shots, we want to take our opportunities and that’s how we will push forward. The performances in the end will lead into points.”

Leicester City are an opponent that Crystal Palace may specifically target to get a result but Kaminski says that her side’s preparation is no different to any other game.

She said “We’ve approached the game the same as any other in terms of our preparation. The girls have been working hard in training which is positive to see.

“We obviously played in midweek and that was useful for us in terms of giving game time to players that haven’t had as many minutes. It was another opportunity for us to play as we are new to the league. We really did use Wednesday night to our advantage in terms of the outcomes that we were seeking from that fixture.

“We returned to the training ground and all eyes are now on Leicester.”

Crystal Palace’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Leicester City kicks-off at 3pm.
