‘We are focusing on ourselves’ – Leicester City boss Miquel previews Crystal Palace

Leicester City head coach Amandine Miquel says that her side’s full focus is on themselves as they prepare to face Crystal Palace at The King Power Stadium this weekend.

The Foxes go into their third Barclays Women’s Super League fixture of the season still searching for their first win. Opponents Crystal Palace are slowly improving in the top tier and will also have their sights set on three points.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Leicester City boss Miquel said that her side are not thinking about the opposition, all of the focus is on their own performance.

“We are focusing on ourselves,” Miquel said. “We have analysed some of what they do but for me, the important thing is do what we want to do and do it well. Adapting to the opponent is not the first objective right now, it has been about working on us and making sure that we have a clear game plan that is mastered by everyone.

“We are not there yet, we have had some good moments and moments where we are lacking a bit with decision-making. We are focused on that and we have the same motivation to do well regardless of the opponent.”

While Miquel is yet to win a game as Leicester City head coach, she is not getting too obssessed with chasing a victory. She wants to focus on performance which should then deliver results.

She said “It’s not that I don’t like winning, it’s just that I think we can focus too much on that and it’s not good for the players. You can play very well and lose and play awful and win.

“There is usually more chance of winning when you play well, so we have been focusing on performance. Sometimes, life is hard because your performance is perfect and you still lose. I think it’s more important to focus on that rather than losing or winning but sometimes, it doesn’t only depend on performance.”

The Crystal Palace fixture is Leicester City’s third game in eight days and Miquel is hoping that her team are fresh and ready for action.

She said “It’s the third game in a tight schedule, so the first thing will be that we’re fresh and fit, every player is ready to perform 100 percent.

“Secondly, we want to develop the game plan again, try to improve and put a bit more reason into what we did on Wednesday [in the Women’s League Cup].”
