Emmanuel Petit was on radio station TalkSport today talking about Chelsea’s project and the removal of Enzo Maresca.

“There’s no vision, they cannot see the future of it. It’s only based on money, money, money. I understand that, that’s the situation in football now. We have to accept it,” the former Blues midfielder said.

“But in the meantime, it doesn’t mean you cannot have a vision on a couple of years and stick with it.”

Petit points to Arteta’s Arsenal as an example

He then pointed to an example that was close to home – at his other former club in London:

“Arteta was under such pressure for two years when he took over at Arsenal,” Petit pointed out.

“And the board kept him. Look what is happening right now. OK, they didn’t win anything at all except for the FA Cup. But they are on a good way to win the Premier League and you can see the DNA of the team on the pitch.”

Would we have won the Premier League with Enzo Maresca in charge? Maybe not. But we certainly aren’t going to win it by sacking a manager every time they struggle. Liam Rosenior is up next – what are the odds on him being in place in two years’ time? Pretty long at the current clip.

In other news…

We won’t get a full preview of Chelsea’s tactics today because it’s going to be a heavily rotated team and he’s only had one day of training. But long term there are questions about how he will solve the big problem from Enzo Maresca’s reign.

Liam Rosenior’s impressive press conference today had a lot of interesting features – but his discussion of Chelsea’s situation involving red and yellow cards was particularly illuminating.
