Noel Futkeu finished 2. Bundesliga top scorer with 19 goals, his haul helping Greuther Fürth clinch a relegation playoff spot.

According to BuLi News, the 23-year-old’s breakthrough prompted Eintracht Frankfurt to activate a buyback clause for €1.3 million. He is expected to fight for his place when he returns, although there is also a possibility that Markus Krösche plans an instant profit.

Before today, Futkeu had struck all of Fürth’s previous seven goals. Felix Klaus took player of the match honours against his former club, Fortuna Düsseldorf, while Futkeu netted the third as Heiko Vogel’s side won by three goals.

The result means Branimir Hrgota and Futkeu have two more matches for Fürth. The Green and Whites hope to secure 2. Bundesliga status in a playoff against Rot-Weiss Essen, third in 3. Liga.

Essen-born Futkeu spent time in RW Essen’s academy before joining Frankfurt’s second team in 2023. He has made one senior appearance for Frankfurt.

No player reached 20 goals in this season’s 2. Bundesliga, the first instance since 2017/18. Magdeburg’s Mateusz Żukowski and Darmstadt’s Isac Lidberg finished joint-second on 17.
