Andreas Schjelderup 21 the Benfica and Norway winger will appear before Danish court after sharing short video via Snapchat that authorities say contained explicit content involving minors, Norway’s Football Association confirmed on Monday.

NFF president Lise Klaveness called it "a very serious mistake" and said the player "is criminally responsible".

What happened

Schjelderup posted on Instagram that the incident occurred two year ago while he was at FC Nordsjaelland. He says he forwarded clip within seconds of receiving it, didn’t watch it in full, was immediately reminded the share was illegal and then deleted it.

He labelled his action "a stupid mistake" and issued apology.

Legal context

Under the Danish Penal Code distributing sexual material that includes children can be punishable by fine or up to two year in prison. Schjelderup is scheduled for plea hearing on 19 November.
