FLW's Norwich City fan pundit has told the club what to do with Liam Gibbs, Jakov Medic and Amankwah Forson

Norwich City have had a disappointing start to the new campaign after a summer of hoping a corner had been turned.

The Canaries went into the new Championship season optimistic that they could contend for promotion to the Premier League under Philippe Clement.

But that optimism has taken a beating with defeats to West Brom and Millwall leaving them with zero points from a possible six.

The Norfolk outfit have spent this summer to bolster their squad, adding the likes of Andre Brooks, Sam Field, Darlin Yongwa, Bruno Alves and Anthony Musaba.

However, there could be more business to come in the final week of the window, with incomings and outgoings both potentially on the cards.

It’s been reported by Pink Un that the likes of Liam Gibbs, Amankwah Forson and Jakov Medic could all depart Carrow Road before the 1 September deadline.

When asked about this trio’s future at the club, FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes claimed that Gibbs could maybe still be of use to Clement’s side due to his versatility, but that he’s likely to be out of the best XI when everyone is available.

He believes that ultimately all three could be worth moving on, and that the Canaries will need another winger to come in before the market closes.

“I think out of the three Liam Gibbs would probably be worth keeping in that he is versatile,” Downes told Football League World.

“But we know that, in terms of ability, he is upgradable, and he won’t be in the starting XI, he may not even make the squad if everyone is available.

“I think it’s up to him whether he wants to have the game time, but he is a useful player because he can play full-back, he can play the wing, in theory, and he can play midfield in any of the positions.

“But I think now, with the level that our squad is at, I think that we could probably let go of [him], as well as Medic and Forson.

“I think if we let the three of them go, that would be okay, but we’d need to get in another winger because that’s probably the position that we are the lightest.”

None of Gibbs, Forson or Medic have been included in the matchday squads for either of Norwich’s opening two league fixtures.

The trio have fallen down the pecking order at Carrow Road, and their futures are now up in the air going into the final days of the transfer market.

Medic played the most minutes of these three players last season, albeit he made just 16 league appearances to Gibbs’ 20, while Forson played on 19 occasions.

Norwich City’s summer departures

Norwich have spent to bring in a number of fresh faces this summer, but have not completed any major sales.

The likes of Tony Springett, Emi Marcondes and George Long departed as free agents, and Matej Jurasek and Louie Moulden both went out on loan.

But the Canaries have yet to receive a significant fee for a player’s departure, so this trio being up for sale will be an attempt to recoup some fees before the market closes.

Clement will be hoping it’s a relatively busy end to the market after the team’s disappointing opening two games, with his side back in action on Tuesday in an EFL Cup clash away to Cardiff City.

Norwich should offload dead weight now while they can

If Medic, Forson and Gibbs aren’t in Clement’s plans, then they should be offloaded now while they can still find somewhere else to get regular minutes.

The latter could be still of use, which could come in handy with how many injury issues the club’s had in recent years.

But if a good offer arrives, then it would be worthwhile cashing in and looking for someone that could contribute more directly to the first team.

The opening rounds have been a wake up call for the Canaries, and they now have one week to act accordingly by sorting out their remaining transfer business.
