Norwich City climb to ninth as Birmingham rally falls short

Norwich City beat Birmingham 2-1 at Carrow Road to rise from 16th to ninth in the Championship.

In the 28th minute, Oscar Schwartau drilled a low finish from outside the box after neat work by Mathias Kvistgaarden to open the scoring for the Canaries.

Papa Diallo doubled the lead with a composed strike from the centre of the area after Andre Brooks' cross (39.).

After the restart, Birmingham hit back when Carlos Vicente converted Liam Millar's delivery from close range (64.) to halve the deficit.

Vladan Kovacevic had earlier foiled Jay Stansfield and August Priske with sharp stops, and late on James Beadle denied Ante Crnac and Anthony Musaba as Birmingham chased an equaliser.

Birmingham drop from 14th to 15th. The Canaries visit Middlesbrough next. Birmingham travel to Derby next.
